Jungle Express Train Zebedee
Enjoy a ride on our Jungle Express Train. You board the train just by the otter enclosure and set off on a small route round the house grounds (not round the whole Park) through the garden of Glanmor House, through the top section of the Parrot Jungle, then behind the scenes around the back of the house.
You go around twice giving you a chance to look around both sides.
Zebedee, as he is called, was previously at Longleat. He was built in 1938 by Lister of Dursley in Gloucestershire. He pulls two specially designed open carriages which were rebuilt in 2008. The track is 15 inch gauge, is circular and about 750 foot (230m) long.
As part of our covid-19 adjustments we have added screens to divide the carriages and to give the train driver a separate cubicle. At present there is no charge to have a train ride.
The train track needs to be dry for the brakes to grip, so in +wet weather the train can’t run – but if it is just a bit damp we treat the tracks with dry sand so that you can still enjoy a ride if possible. For the autumn season it is scheduled to run every hour between 11.15 and 3.15pm. It will keep running while there are people in the queue until they have all been on. It then stops until the next allotted time displayed on the sign. On good weather winter days it may also be taken out for a spin!.
