Caribbean Flamingo is named
We can now announce that new name for our male Caribbean flamingo (previously known by the ID ‘Green HGA’) who has partnered with our young hand-reared female called ‘Derek’ is . . . . . DORIS!
In early summer two of our Caribbean Flamingos took their friendship to the next level by building a nest together. One had a name soon after hatching the other never got named. Thank you to everyone that visited over the summer holiday and voted between ‘Bo’, ‘Darius’ and ‘Doris’ which were suggestions made back in July 2023 by fans of our Facebook page.
If you are reading about Derek for the first time, Derek was originally named when she was a tiny chick just a couple of days old by Keeper Becky back in 2019. A while later we got confirmation that Derek was in fact female, but by then we were already used to calling her ‘Derek’ so the name stuck!
