Sucsess for foster touraco parents
May 2025
Paradise Park has bred many touracos, the active fruit-eating birds from Africa. However, the Fischer’s pair had not succeeded in rearing chicks even though they had produced eggs.
As the White-cheeked Touraco pair has proved themselves excellent parents, Head of Softbills at the Park, Becky Waite, hatched a plan… to foster Fischer’s eggs under White-cheeked Touracos.
The plan worked and a first Fischer’s chick hatched and fledged and is now exploring its aviary. The proud foster parents are continuing to take good care of their latest chick as it becomes independent.
We are also happy to report that more recently, the Fischer’s Touraco pair have now successfully hatched chicks of their own. 👏
A White-cheeked touraco called ‘Chico’ appears in the summer afternoon ‘Free Flying Bird Show’ where you can learn more about touraco species and an opportunity to capture great photos. For details of current daily events please click HERE.
