Mitchell’s Lorikeet Project, an uplifting update
January 2026
In just six months 35 Mitchell’s Lorikeet chicks have been bred, fantastic progress in the fight to save this highly endangered little parrot.

Last year, 40 Mitchell’s Lorikeets, bred at Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary were sent to Bali as part of a collaborative conservation initiative with the World Parrot Trust, Bali Bird Park, and Taman Safari Indonesia. The project is designed to prevent this beautiful bird heading into extinction on Bali through captive breeding and release. The adult birds arrived in Bali in June 2025 and after their period of quarantine most pairs have attempted to breed, with 25 precious chicks reared successfully at Bali Bird Park plus another 10 at Taman Safari – amazing work by our partners.
The World Parrot Trust continues to provide facilitation, funding, and scientific support, ensuring that the birds will be released into suitable habitats and closely monitored as they adapt to the wild.
